Healing Words When a Loved One Dies
Is this you?
Are you coming up to a loved one’s anniversary and you want to do something meaningful and unique?
Are you looking for a meaningful, simple way to remember your loved one in your heart?
Are you willing to try something creative, knowing it doesn’t matter if you have any previous experience writing poetry or not?
Are you willing to share your poem, knowing it is not going to be critiqued, but rather, lovingly held in the hearts of others who are sharing their loved one’s poems also?
What if you could?
Do this in the comfort of your own home, fitting your own schedule?
Find your own words and metaphors, drawing on both the seemingly mundane as well as the mysterious in your relationship?
Have an opportunity to read/share your poem to others, creating a circle of heart connection for you and your loved one?

Frequently Asked Questions:
Question: What if I am not sure about trying something new?
Answer: It can be normal to feel resistance to trying something new. It is about your relationship with your loved one in your heart. Are you willing to try something new, out of your own heart? Just pen and paper and YOU.
Here is what one participant said about their experience:
“I had no expectations other than perhaps to just allow the experience to bring something new to me. I was very interested to see what might happen inwardly.”
Question: What if I’ve never written poetry before?
Answer: This kind of poetry is like breathing. So there is an ebb and flow to the structure that you will bring to it. You will find your own rhythm. And it will be beautiful.
Question: What if no one has died recently in my life, will I get as much out of this class?
Answer: Whether the person died a long time ago or just recently, it is the same in the heart. So if you think of someone rather fondly from your past, say, your grandmother who raised you as a child…that ‘fondness’ is the active ingredient to notice. Writing the poem is a gesture of love and as they say, ‘love knows no bounds’. If a death is recent, this experience can be more poignant for you but no more or less important.
Question: What if I have written lots of poems before about my loved one?
Answer: If you have noticed a new thought about your relationship or have a question that you wanted to pay attention to but find yourself hard pressed to find the time, then ask in your heart if this opportunity is right for you. The main difference in Poetry of the Heart is likely in the sharing of the poems. The circle of tenderness, love, grace and connection is strengthening for all.
Question: What if I have done Poetry of the Heart with you before? Can I do it again?
Answer: Absolutely! Your loved one is nourished by the creativity when you work out of your heart – whether for the same person or another. One person said they wanted to do this each year on their loved one’s anniversary month. Bonus: There is a 50% discount if you have done Poetry of the Heart with me previously.
Question: What if I don’t live in the Eastern Time Zone – will I have enough time to do writing?
Answer: I will be recording the first teleclass and it will be available almost immediately. Wherever you live there will be more than 24 hours between each of the group conference calls.
Question: Is it better to write all at once or in smaller chunks of time…My schedule is pretty busy this weekend.
Answer: In my experience, you will need 2-4 hours to write what is in your heart. Sometimes I can do it all at once, but usually it happens in smaller chunks of time anyway…It’s more like a 24 hours meditative space, no matter what else I do, I am in a soul space and paying attention to my loved one. The heart delights in this sense of relaxed focusing.
Question: What is the group sharing like?
Answer: Here’s what past participants have said:
“I very much appreciated the experience of the beautiful readings in the second call.”
“It deepened my experience to be listened to, and brought stronger images expressed in the poem. I enjoyed listening to the other poems and experience a stronger connection to the people we were writing about than if we had told biographies of them. The poems seemed to distill a clear, concise and important picture of that person.”
